Human Resources

The primary purpose of Human Resources (HR) is to provide an efficient personnel management system within the Choctaw Tribal Government. HR will provide technical service to the Tribal Government in employment, recruiting, promotions, testing, hiring, job design, record keeping, and other personnel areas.

Employment Benefits

Employment with the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians has many benefits. We are proud to offer our Tribal Government employees the benefits outlined in this section. The Office of Risk Management is here to assist employees with employment benefits including insurance and retirement. Orientation

All new and returning employees must attend Tribal Government orientation at the beginning of their employment or re-employment. A representative from the Human Resources Office, Tribal Safety Office, and Risk Management Office shall give the administrative orientation to all new regular employees. The Department Head and Program Director should orient each new employee about their program goals and objectives and their specific duties and responsibilities.

The following steps shall be followed for orientation of new employees by a Human Resources representative. On the first day of employment (if applicable), the employee must attend Administrative Orientation. The new employee will be given an orientation package by the Human Resources Representative containing, but not limited to, the following:

  • Tribal personnel policies (for employee to keep)
  • Tax Forms
  • Employee Information Sheet (original placed in employee personnel file – no copies made)
  • New employee orientation checklist

At the time of orientation, the Human Resources Representative will explain the Tribal Personnel Policies to the new employee. The Tribal Government Administrative Personnel Policy & Procedures can also be found electronically here. 

After receiving orientation, the employee will report to the Background Investigation Office to have employee identification badges made.

Background Investigation

The Background Investigations Office will be responsible for the maintenance of investigative procedures and in hiring/firing threshold in accordance with the Tribal Personnel Policies.

Employee Badges

After employee orientation, the employee will report to the Background Investigation Office to have identification badges made and fingerprints taken. If for any reason you need a new employee badge, contact the Background Investigations office at 601.650.7499.


Tribal Identification Cards – Eligibility

  • Only enrolled members of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians may receive a tribal identification card.
  • Applicants must present their Certificate of Degree of Indian Blood (CDIB).
  • In addition to their CDIB, the applicant must present one (1) government issued document from Column A AND one (1) from Column B.
  • Veteran Applicants must present their discharge papers to have the Veteran Status indicated on the tribal identification card. Presenting their DD-214 replaces the requirement from Column B below.
  • Tribal members under the age of 16 only need to present their CDIB.

MBCI Employee Holidays

Tribal Government employees are eligible for “holiday pay” on fourteen (14) holidays each year. The holidays recognized by the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians are:

New Years’ Day (January 1)

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day (3rd Monday in January)

President’s Day (3rd Month in February)

Good Friday (Friday before Easter)

Memorial Day (Last Monday in May)

Juneteenth National Independence Day (June 19)

Independence Day (July 4)

Nanih Waiya Day (2nd Friday in August)

Labor Day (First Monday in September)

American Indian Day (4th Friday in September)

Veteran’s Day (Nov. 11)

Thanksgiving Day (4th Thursday in November)

Native American Heritage Day (Day after Thanksgiving)

Christmas Day (December 25)

If a holiday falls on a Saturday, it will be observed the day before on Friday. If a holiday falls on a Sunday, it will be observed on the following Monday.

To be eligible to receive holiday pay, however, an employee must work his or her scheduled hours, or be on pre-approved leave, on the workday immediately preceding and the workday immediately following the holiday. If any holiday occurs during an employee’s approved annual leave, that day will not be charged against the employee’s annual leave.

Exempt employees receive no additional compensation beyond their salary, base, or commissioned pay for holidays.
