The Department of Early Childhood Education is focused on more than academic achievement – it includes not only the intellectual, but the democratic, moral, personal, physical, and social development of our children. Beginning in a child’s first year we work with the children’s most important teachers, our parents.

Early childhood includes programs for Early Head Start (newborn to three years), Head Start (three to five years) and daycare (newborn to five years). The Tribe’s Division of Education operates Early Childhood Educations Centers in every community. Each is certified by the National Head Start Office. More than 400 Choctaw preschoolers annually participate in our programs.

Located in Newton County in the Conehatta Community, this Center accepts children eight weeks old to five years old. A Head Start program is in place for those children four years of age to prepare them for kindergarten.
